Christians understand death as a real and painful enemy, yet one that has been defeated through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Those who belong to Christ are given eternal life, and they look forward not to escape from the world, but to the resurrection of the body and the renewal of all creation when heaven and earth are made one.
